How Small Businesses Can Compete with Ecommerce Giants
Small and medium firms that sell online are often thought of as powerless and helpless when ranged against the Amazons and Walmarts of the world. While the big players in the e-commerce industry are expected to continue their domination, it does not mean that small businesses can compete with them.
If you run a small online business and you dream for it to thrive even when against up such lofty competition, here are two things that you might want to keep in mind:
-
Small businesses can provide more value than on price
The giants of the e-commerce world offer value to their customers in the form of lower prices. Small businesses may not be able to compete in that regard. But it doesn’t mean that they can’t offer more value to their customers. Remember that most people buy based on emotion. So you should make your customers feel good about buying from you online.
You may not be able to offer the lowest priced good but ensure that you are giving your customers a quality product. Show why your product is more superior than what Amazon has, even if what you are offering is at a higher price.

Small businesses can provide better customer service
If there’s one area where the big guys can’t compete with the small players, then it would have to be customer service. This is not surprising because the Amazons of the world run a high volume and low margin business. You can’t expect them to provide great customer service prior, during and after a sale.
On the other hand, small firms like yours can provide better customer service than the big players. Make sure that your customers are happy with their purchase so that they will buy from you again.
